Amsterdam Dance Event’s 30th anniversary, held from 21 to 25 October 2026, offered a striking snapshot of how diverse Afro House has become. Rather than a single style confined to one kind of dancefloor, the week’s programme placed African-rooted electronic music in arenas, warehouse spaces, independent label showcases and industry discussions.
Black Coffee’s three-hour Ziggo Dome performance, Shimza’s DGTL warehouse takeover and Nitefreak’s Afroholic showcase weren’t interchangeable bookings. Together they showed the different scales at which this music now lives.
Black Coffee returned to the Ziggo Dome on Wednesday, 21 October, for a special three-hour set. The venue size is notable, but the bigger story is artistic identity: a DJ associated with a distinctive, soulful approach to house music can now operate on the scale of a major arena without the entire musical conversation becoming a conventional mainstage show.
The performance was one of the week’s clearest examples of Afro House’s international reach. It is also a reminder that a genre’s growth should not be judged by venue capacity alone: small rooms and independent promoters remain just as important to the music’s future.

On Saturday, 24 October, DGTL presented Shimza & Co at NDSM Warehouse. The announced lineup connected Shimza with artists including AMÉMÉ, DESIREE, Arodes, JAMIIE, Âme, Bedouin and Alex Wann.
What makes a programme like this compelling is its range. The artists do not all make or play identical records: percussion-led grooves, melodic tension and deeper selections can share a stage without losing their character. That breadth is one reason the Afro House conversation now reaches far beyond a single local scene.

Friday’s Amajoyo presents Afroholic event at Soulkitchen Amsterdam put the spotlight on Nitefreak’s Afroholic Records and De La Noise’s Amajoyo, with a programme featuring Nitefreak, De La Noise, Wilson Kentura, Thami the Unknown, Elson Soares, Randoree and Marinus.
For music discovery, a label showcase is especially revealing. Behind every internationally recognised DJ there are artists, producers, smaller imprints and collaborations that help a sound develop. These nights can connect listeners with music they might never encounter through headline charts alone.

Aaron Sevilla brought the AFRODISE concept to the ADE programme at IJland. It offered another perspective on the way Afro House travels between scenes and absorbs different regional influences without erasing its African roots.
For SoundVibe readers, Sevilla is also a familiar reference point from our earlier coverage of his appearance in Bucharest. Read our previous Aaron Sevilla feature.
The Afro House Summit, listed for Thursday, 22 October at LuminAir, highlighted another side of the culture: the artists, labels and professionals shaping the industry behind the performances. Announced participants included CIZA, Atmos Blaq, Eran Hersh, Idd Aziz, Sofiya Nzau and Breyth.
When a musical movement grows, its long-term health depends on more than big events. Development opportunities, independent releases, sustainable relationships and space for emerging voices matter too. That is why the Summit deserves attention alongside the week’s biggest club nights.

The most interesting takeaway from ADE 2026 is not that every major venue suddenly plays the same music. It is precisely the opposite: Afro House can stretch from soulful, patiently built sets to intense percussion-driven nights, intimate label events and cross-border collaborations.
For anyone discovering the genre, the best route is to follow the music itself: explore artists’ catalogues, listen beyond familiar festival names and pay attention to emerging producers and specialist labels.
That is also the editorial approach behind SoundVibe Radio. We bring Afro House together with Melodic House, Organic House and Deep House, including new discoveries and guest mixes rather than a fixed list of familiar hits.
